Game Report

The Canadiens have earned six of a possible eight points in Western Canada in the past week, pushing their road record to 10-5-3. But perhaps it’s time to set the alarm clocks a little earlier.

Once again the Canadiens fell behind early giving up the first goal for the fourth straight time on this road trip. Fortunately a Winnipeg goal was called back after video review or Montreal could have been down 2-0 before the game was 12 minutes old.

The Jets dominated the Habs right from the opening faceoff, holding a 15-6 shot advantage. Carey Price was outstanding keeping his team in the game against the potent Winnipeg offence.

With Joel Armia drawing a penalty the tide started to turn. Tomas Tatar scored on the power-play converting a gorgeous pass from Nick Suzuki. The Canadiens were in the midst of stretch where they outshot the Jets 11-1 to end the period.

Just 92 seconds after his first goal, Tatar scored again as Montreal took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The late period momentum continued in the second frame as the Habs scored three times feasting on shaky goaltending by Laurent Brossoit.

The Canadiens cruised to a 6-2 win powered by 48 shots, their highest three-period  total of the season.

The players will take a few days to enjoy their Christmas break. Before the New Year, Montreal will play three more road games, this time in Florida and North Carolina.
