Game Report 

Temporarily, the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators are tied for first place in their division. Each team has three points atop the Atlantic. 

No one expects the present standings to hold come April, but right now, Habs fans are having more fun than they expected early in this new season.

The Penguins have given up 11 goals in their first two games, most in the NHL. And it’s easy to see why. The Canadiens capitalized on turnovers and sloppy play all game long.

Once again, the Canadiens used their speed to take advantage of giveaways and to aggressively forecheck the opposition. The three Canadiens alternate captains, Artturi Lehkonen, Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher gave the Penguins fits all night.

Joel Armia had his best game as a Canadiens forward with a goal on three shots and four hits. Charles Hudon has had a dreadful start to his season but was the recipient of a gift from Matt Murray in the third period. Hopefully the goal kickstarts his year.

Jonathan Drouin looks completely disinterested. If effort and compete level are going to be a measuring stick for Claude Julien, no other player is more deserving of spending extended time in the press box.

The Canadiens return home for their home opener against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
