Game Report

At the end of the day, the Canadiens will chalk this up to a successful road trip winning two of three games. But given the Habs’ finish last season, when they give away two points, there will always be the question ‘what if’?

One of the reasons that Montreal has a very favorable schedule this season is being the rested team playing their opposition on the second half of a back-to-back. That is just the position Dallas was in having played in Colorado on Friday night. It is the type of situation the Habs must take advantage of to be a playoff team.

As Claude Julien noted, it was the Canadiens who looked like the tired team. They certainly wilted under the physical play of the Stars. But it was Montreal’s special teams that were the most disappointing.

After a promising start, the power-play has scored just once in the past five games going 0-for-5 on the night. The penalty-kill was worse allowing two goals to Dallas.

Carey Price was the only reason the game stayed close into the third period.

The Canadiens will get ready to host the Bruins on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre.

What Did They Say?

 Post-game Quotes
Claude Julien
  • “I think the real explanation is we didn’t have our legs. I didn’t think we had the energy tonight. There was no fight in the dog. We lost a lot of battles. Right from the get go, we had a couple of good shifts here and there, but overall we looked like a tired team tonight.”
  • “You’ve got some nights where no matter what you can’t seem to find your legs. Our game is based on that. Our game is based on our speed, our execution and how fast we play, and we didn’t even get close to that.”

Ben Chiarot

  • “They were the better team tonight in all facets of the game. Right through the whole game, they were on it, they were quick, stronger on the puck, stronger on battles. They were just a sharper team. That’s all it was. It wasn’t starts or finishes, it was right from the puck drop right until the end. They were better.”
