Game Report
The Montreal Canadiens closed out the pre-season with a dominating performance fueled by a close-to-opening-day lineup. The Habs finished the exhibition schedule with just one regulation loss in seven games played.
Shea Weber and Carey Price took part in their first per-season action and each had an immediate impact. Weber scored his first goal in a Canadiens jersey in over 25 minutes of ice-time. Price did not allow a goal at even strength enroute to making 28 saves.
Newcomers Andrew Shaw and Alexander Radulov had two points each. Rookies Michael McCarron and Artturi Lehkonen each had a goal while Daniel Carr had two assists.
It was a strong game by the entire team and should make the decisions more difficult about the final cuts. However, an illness to Paul Byron and injuries to Jeff Petry and Brian Flynn may make the task a little easier, at least for the short term.
All eyes will be on Mikhail Sergachev to see whether the Canadiens will return their first round pick to the OHL. Sergachev has had a mixed performance throughout training camp, but tonight Michel Therrien called it his best game.
The Canadiens will have two days off on Friday and Saturday returning to Brossard for practice on Sunday. Marc Bergevin has a press conference scheduled for next Tuesday which could be the day that the final roster is presented.
