Game Report 

Rarely does Carey Price play both games of a weekend back-to-back, but he did tonight. And the Canadiens are very fortunate that he did. The desperate Sharks dominated the first period but Price kept his team in the game.

While, once again, the Habs had 40+ shots in a game, it was San Jose who had more high-danger scoring chances. Price’s outstanding saves in the second period on Evander Kane and Marcus Sorensen kept the score from getting out of hand.

Special teams were once again a losing battle for Montreal. The power-play had another 0-for night as they remain 30th with the man advantage. The bulk of the power-play minutes did not go to leading scorer Max Domi nor to Brendan Gallagher, Tomas Tatar or Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

And Montreal’s penalty-kill now finds itself ranked 18th in the league after the Sharks scored on a 5-on-3 advantage with Mike Reilly and Michael Chaput in the penalty box.

The Canadiens have won just once in their last seven games.

Up next is a home-and-home series against the Ottawa Senators starting on Tuesday.

• “[The first goal] is on me, it was my fault. I kind of hesitated and the defenceman read the play. I took an extra split-second and he read it and stepped in front. When I looked at it, I guess I should have chipped it into the neutral zone, played it safe.”
