Game Report

The Canadiens came into this game on a high, riding the emotion of a 3-0 victory in Boston on Saturday night. But emotion can be a blessing and a curse when playing hockey, and tonight it was the latter.

After a first period where Montreal held a clear edge in play, the home team showed their frustrations in the second period taking bad penalties. The potent Dallas power-play cashed in scoring with Phillip Danault in the box and just a few seconds following the expiration of a hooking penalty to Nicolas Deslauriers.

Expecting the Canadiens to come back from a 2-0 deficit in the third period was probably unrealistic. Coming into this game, the Habs had scored just five goals in the third period all season long, the fewest in the NHL.

But when Brendan Gallagher crashed the net and mugged Stars goaltender, the Canadiens were gifted a goal after review.

Unfortunately, Montreal fell victim to the Stars special teams again as the penalty-kill scored a short-handed goal to seal the win.

It was the Dallas Stars first road victory of the season.
