Canadiens agree to terms on a two-year contract with free agent forward Jiri Sekac

MONTREAL (July 1, 2014) – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the signing of free agent forward Jiri Sekac to a two-year contract (2014-15 and 2015-16).
In 47 games with the KHL’s Lev Prague in 2013-14, Sekac collected 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists). He ranked second on his team in assists and points, and tied for second in goals. The 6’0’’ and 174 lbs forward added three powerplay goals and two winning tallies. Sekac totaled 81 shots on goal and maintained a +12 differential. He recorded eight points (1 goal, 7 assists) in 21 playoff contests.
Sekac, 21, registered 39 points (13 goals, 26 assists) and served 30 penalty minutes in 109 regular season contests since making his professional debut with Poprad Lev in 2011-12. He suited up for Sparta Prague (Czech Extraliga) during the 2012-13 season, registering 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists).
A native of Kladno, Czech Republic, Sekac also played with the OHL’s Peterborough Petes in 2009-10 and with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms from 2009 to 2011.
