After a week-long rest, thanks to the NHL All-Star break, Tuesday night finally brought the Montreal Canadiens back to the Bell Centre in a matchup against the Dallas Stars.  In what seems to be a rare occasion this season, the Habs got on the board first with goals by Alexei Emelin and Alex Galchenyuk in the first period.  Emelin earned himself a five-minute boarding penalty and a game misconduct for a hit from behind on Jason SpezzaBrendan Gallagher added to the Canadiens’ tally with a power-play goal, giving his team the edge as the final buzzer sounded.  Final score: Canadiens, 3-2. On Thursday, the Canadiens took a short trip to Manhattan to pay a visit to the New York Rangers.  It was a tightly played game, with a Habs goal waived off in the first period.  Max Pacioretty potted the only goal of the game in the third period, and Carey Price came up with one spectacular save after another to garner him and his teammates a shutout at Madison Square Garden.  Final score: Canadiens, 1-0. In the first of the Super Bowl weekend back-to-back matinee games, the Canadiens welcomed the Washington Capitals to the Bell Centre on Saturday afternoon.  For the second consecutive game, there was no scoring by either team in the first 40 minutes of the game.  Things turned physical after Tomas Plekanec laid a solid hip check on Tom Wilson in the second period.  Price continued to play a solid game in net, frustrating the Caps with ringing post after ringing post.  Pacioretty again scored the game’s only goal, this time in overtime.  Final score: Canadiens, 1-0 (OT). The next day, the Arizona Coyotes came to town for an afternoon matchup before the sports world focused on the Super Bowl.  Galchenyuk got things started with excitement in the first period, with two even-strength goals about three minutes apart.  Then the tides turned, and Arizona scored three unanswered goals on Dustin Tokarski, creating a one-goal deficit which the Canadiens weren’t able to overcome.  Final score: Coyotes, 3-2.
