After a rough week where only one game landed in the “win” column, the Canadiens looked to get week 24 started on a positive note. Greg Pateryn was called up from Hamilton and Alexei Emelin was also placed in the lineup, the Habs readied themselves for another matchup against the Lightning. Brandon Prust and Mike Angelidis dropped the gloves a couple of times during this game, as did Brendan Gallagher and Vladislav Namestikov. Defensively, the Canadiens couldn’t muster much. Tomas Plekanec potted a power play goal in the second period, and P. A. Parenteau kicked off the third period with a goal, but the Habs were outplayed by Tampa Bay. Final score: Lightning, 4-2. Dustin Tokarski got the nod in goal for the Habs on the next night, as they visited the Florida Panthers. The opening 20 minutes left much to be desired on the ice and not much to be found on the scoreboard. But in the next frame, Emelin got the Canadiens on the board first, rookie Jacob de la Rose knocked in a short-handed goal off a nice pass by Prust, and P. K. Subban scored the game-winner. Final score: Canadiens, 3-2. (Read our full recap here: Unlikely Heroes Lead Habs To Win)
Price happily earned his eighth shutout of the season on Thursday night, as the Canadiens welcomed the Carolina Hurricanes to Montreal. Dale Weise got the Habs on the board in the first period, followed by Gallagher’s 20th goal of the season. David Desharnais followed suit in the second period, and Max Pacioretty notched his 35th of the season in the final frame. It was a good offensive night overall for the Habs. Final score: Canadiens, 4-0. (Read our full recap here: Price Earns Shutout, 39th Win of the Season)
Things got a bit more exciting on Saturday night when the San Jose Sharks came to Montreal. The Habs came out skating well in the first period, full of energy and playing tightly. Plekanec potted a goal late in the first period, a much-needed first goal against the Sharks. The second period didn’t feature any goals, but things got physical as players were checked harder and Price was contacted often. Despite a flurry of activity in front of Price in the third period, he was able to hold the Sharks at bay and get a second consecutive shutout. Final score: Canadiens, 2-0.
