As the Canadiens welcomed the Tampa Bay Lightning back to the Bell Centre on Monday night, fans were hoping to see their team come out victorious against their southern rivals for the first time this season.  Neither team lit the lamp in the opening 20 minutes, but Tampa Bay managed to score three goals in the second period.  Max Pacioretty got the energy going for Montreal with a shorthanded goal.  Following that, Jeff Petry opened the third period with a goal of his own and P. K. Subban potted a power play goal towards the end of the game.  It wasn’t quite enough, though, and the Lightning swept the season series.  Final score: Lightning, 5-3. On Thursday night, the Washington Capitals came to town and they brought their solid power play with them.  The Habs failed to score in the opening period yet again, but got on the board with three goals in the second period.  Petry, Tom Gilbert, and Lars Eller each notched an even-strength goal.  Subban came through with another power play goal in the third period, but it was the Washington power play that really made the difference.  The game stretched all the way to the shootout, where Troy Brouwer scored the only goal. Final score: Capitals, 5-4 (SO). (Read our full recap here: The Power-Play Rules)

Having lost four of their last five games, the Habs headed to New Jersey Friday night needing a better performance.  Dustin Tokarski took over in net to allow Carey Price a night of rest.  Tomas Plekanec made sure the score stayed close in the first period with a power play goal.  Just over two minutes later, Petry gave the Canadiens the go-ahead goal.  Eventually the Habs would find themselves facing another shootout and, for the second consecutive night, none of the Montreal shooters could tally a goal.  Final score: Devils, 3-2 (SO).  (Read our full recap here: Habs Fans Are Getting Restless)
