Sharks trade Rivet to Sabres for 2nd round picks in 2009 & 2010

An excerpt from TSN:

After acquiring Rob Blake and Dan Boyle, the San Jose Sharks traded away defenceman Craig Rivet to the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sharks sent Rivet and a seventh-round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to the Sabres in exchange for second-round selections in the 2009 and 2010 drafts.

“We are very excited to add such a quality veteran player to our roster,” Sabres GM Darcy Regier said in a statement. “He is a great character player that will provide our club added leadership and experience.”

Rivet recorded five goals and 30 assists in 74 regular season games in 2007-08.

Habster:

Welcome back to the Eastern conference, Craig!!!!

After losing Dmitri Kalinin to the Rangers, the Sabres had to add another tough defenseman who could play top four defense minutes. While Craig Rivet is a year older, he can still contribute a solid two way game. He certainly enjoyed his best all-round season with 35 points (GP-74 G-5 A-30 +3) and knows the Eastern conference really well.
