Stewart, D’Agostini called up from Hamilton

Are these call ups related to the injury of Saku Koivu and/or the flu bug problem affecting Alex Kovalev and Mikhail Grabovski? I also wonder if Bob Gainey is trying to protect or insulate some of his more skilled players like Andrei Markov who was involved in his first career fight last night. The Canadiens don’t need another injury to a key player heading into the playoffs.

Here’s some information I know about Stewart and D’Agostini:

Greg Stewart is a physical player who likes to crash and bang, with good speed, size (6’2″ 205lbs) and skating. He needs to develop his offensive game more. This season in Hamilton, Stewart was the designated tough guy who stood up for his teammates……it’s something he has developed over his young hockey career.

Matt D’Agostini is an excellent skater with a great shot that he can release very quickly. He has been working on his defensive zone coverage and has improved in that department over this season. Some think his game is similar to a young Michel Goulet but it’s unfair to make comparisons with a member of the HHOF. D’Agostini was one of the last cuts in this year’s Habs training camp after a very good training camp/preseason performance ( I think he had 4 or 5 points in the preseason games).
