Sundin meets with Leafs brass, reportedly will meet with Canadiens.

Here’s an excerpt from TSN:

Sources say Sundin is also expected to meet, or speak with the Montreal Canadiens before returning to Europe on Monday.

Later in the TSN article, J.P Barry had this to say:

And when Barry was asked if it was a matter of either rejoining the Maple Leafs or retiring, Barry made it clear other teams are in the mix.

“No, I don’t think that’s the case but I think the decision-making process is down to Toronto and another team because that’s the way he’s always felt,” Barry told AM640 Radio.

Habster:

If Sundin does meet with Bob Gainey and the Canadiens organization before flying back to Sweden, then it’s a positive sign which definitely shows his level of interest is high. It could also just be a sign of respect for the classy Bob Gainey, something the equally classy Sundin has taken note of with his dealings with Gainey.

All hockey fans understand Sundin has the right to take his time making a decision. After all, he is an UFA with no contractual obligation to any team but with that being said, there are teams like the Canadiens who have patiently been waiting for a decision.

Unfortunately, the Sundin saga will continue to drag on with teams in a holding pattern to land the big Swede.

It’s not just the teams that are interested in Sundin that are affected in this process. There are presently six teams ( Ducks, Flames, Blackhawks, Flyers, Sharks and Capitals) over the salary cap that need to shed some salary before the season gets started. Some of the potential deals ( Schneider to the Habs???) to shed these salaries are being held up by Sundin’s indecisiveness.
