An excerpt from the Toronto Star (Mark Zwolinski):

The Montreal Canadiens are prepared to roll out a regal offer and reception for Mats Sundin, but the Leafs captain has prolonged the organization’s and its fans’ anxiety with yet another day of indecision concerning his playing future.

Sundin was to talk with his agent J.P. Barry and Montreal general manager Bob Gainey yesterday in what was expected to be a decision-making day.

Habster:

Mats Sundin needs to make a decision whether he will test the UFA market, sign with the Habs or retire. He really needs to do it well in advance of the July 1st deadline to be fair to Bob Gainey and the Canadiens organization who have been understandably patience with the classy Swede.

With all that being said, Gainey surely has alternative UFA or trade strategies to pursue so he obviously needs an answer from Sundin, sooner rather than later…….let’s hope Mats follows his usual classy ways and allows everybody (including even the Maple Leafs!!!) the chance to move forward with their plans.
