The original Article by Dagens Nyheter, supposedly a very credible Swedish paper was also picked up by Aftonbladet whose sports writers are very respected (more than the rest of the tabloid). If a reputable Newspaper goes ahead and publishes after being told the info is wrong, that should mean they are very confident in their source’s (Russian Team Executive?) one would think.

It sounds like the Vancouver media is in a feeding frenzy over this report and are jumping the gun on an instantiated news article, not to say it wouldn’t happen here as well…..especially with the Montreal media!!!!
I can’t help but think the potential/hypothetical signing of Mats Sundin by the Canucks is another Mark Messier scenario all over again.
When the Canucks brought Messier to Vancouver, it was being hailed as the final piece in the march toward a Stanley Cup or the very least, a berth into the playoffs.
Adding Messier to an already potent offensive lineup with the likes of Pavel Bure, Alexander Mogilny, Markus Naslund, would only improve the team. How they were completely wrong!!
During the three seasons Messier wore the Canucks colours, Vancouver failed to make the playoffs and didn’t even get more than 60 points in any of those years. They were a terrible team even with the great leadership of a Mark Messier in their lineup on a nightly basis.
Needless to say, it wasn’t what was expected when Mark Messier arrived on scene. Will it be the same situation if Mats Sundin decides to give the Canucks the nod? The parallels are frighteningly similar with a Canucks team that has a long way to go before the addition of a Mats Sundin will make a difference.
