An excerpt from the Vancouver Province (Ben Kuzma):
Sundin still has given no firm indication when he’ll decide whether to accept a two-year, $20-million-US contract offer from the Canucks – there is also a one-year option from general manager Mike Gillis – or whether he’ll play for the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs or retire.
However, the unrestricted free agent centre has been working out, which seems to indicate he’s planning on playing in the 2008-09 NHL season. And Gillis has dangled the opportunity to captain Sweden at the 2010 Winter Olympics in his home rink, in hopes of luring Sundin.
Gillis remains encouraged by his ongoing dialogue with Sundin and his North American agent J.P. Barry, and the fact the Canucks have outbid other suitors for the 6-foot-5, 231-pound Swede.
Habster:
I’m sure many Canadiens fans are starting to get a little tired of the constant rumours where Mats Sundin will place next season and his indecisiveness.
There must be something in the Swedish drinking water……Forsberg and Sundin, please make up your minds and either retire or decide where you want to play, just make a F&$%!#* decision, sh!t or get off the pot………etc!!!!!
At this point in time, I (along with every Habs fan) would welcome Sundin with open arms and embrace his arrival in the Bleu, Blanc et Rouge. It would put the Canadiens over the top and make them instant Stanley Cup favorites along side teams like Detroit, Pittsburgh and Anaheim to name a few.
With all that being said, if Sundin does know or have a preference where he wants to play as these “reports” have indicated, then by all means, please make a decision. Let the respective teams (Leafs, Canucks and Canadiens) who have interest in your services move forward with their plans for the upcoming season as it would be the classy thing to do.
Mats Sundin has always been a class act throughout his hockey career so it’s time to continue that trend with a decision, Mats……for everybody involved!!!!
