Coming to Montreal next week for the Draft Tweetup? You should be because we continue to elevate this “mother of all hockey tweetups with great activities, sponsors and prizes.

No hockey event in Montreal would be complete without playing a game of pick up hockey, even in late June when summer has officially started.

Forget the Stanley Cup finals and ignore salary caps! On Saturday, June 27th, McGill University Athletics has granted us use of their Fieldhouse and equipment to play the first of what will hopefully be many annual Tweetup Hockey Challenges at the annual NHL Entry Draft.

This will be a FUN game, open to guys and girls of ALL skill levels. Essentially, if you have a heartbeat, you can (and should) play! However, space is limited. We’re looking for enough recruits to fill 2 teams (11 per team, goalie included). You will not have to bring any equipment with you in your travels except for running shoes, and whatever you want to wear. Equipment such as gloves and helmet are optional, and not required. However if you’re like me and can’t play hockey without gloves, it would be a good idea to leave some extra room in your luggage for them.

If you choose not to play, you are still encouraged to come be one of the coaches, determine line combinations and, *ahem*, “strategy”. We’re also looking for a ref who will also moonlight as in-game commissioner (to make trades as he/she sees fit to keep the game evenly matched).

The deal will be sweetened for the winning team, so you do want to score at least 1 more goal than the other side! Who’s going to be the Max Talbot of the Tweetup Hockey Challenge?

How to reserve your spot? Don’t be shy!

Leave a comment below and let us know if you’ll participate as a player, coach or referee. In order to help us stay organized, only by posting here on this blog can you reserve your spot. Twitter posts, or comments left on other blogs, emails, voicemails, fax, snail mail, telegrams, telegraph and morse code will not be accepted.

Thanks to hockeybuzz.com for sponsoring this amazing and unique event!

  1. By the way, I'm playing, so if you want to take some shots at me for some stupid things I've said here or on Twitter, here's your chance!

  2. I will play the part of fan/spectator/mocker… all as necessary. ;)

I swear I think I'm looking forward to this more than anything else the whole weekend!

    @dani3boyz

  3. @kuyaz – Try and find out asap if you can make it. Once word gets out we expect the teams to fill up fast. There's 11 spots per team and once they're gone – they're gone! I also misworded my own comment – I won't be in goal (if I can help it), but I meant that people can take some shots at me anyway, or hack at my ankles!

@dani – I think you should play. Tell your boys that you got out there and threw some elbows around!

  4. That is an awesome idea. Shame I can't make it. Otherwise you'd all have to cope with my *ahem* "hockey skills" or lack thereof.

  5. If I can make it in – apparently someone said it's at 10 in the morning?! – then I will join Dani as Chief Spectator. I can NOT play hockey to save my life, plus, as Kyle might remember, I'm much too puny to play =p

  6. I have a feeling this is all going to end in laughter, mockery and tears. But I'm used to that. So fine, sign me up. But I want to make sure everyone's expectations are sufficiently low. I promise only that I'll laugh and try to be a good sport. ;)

  7. I'll be there. I guess I kinda have no choice given that it's my name on the reservation. :) I might even play…

  8. I have never played hockey in my life … so can I be there as a cheerleader or fan/spectator

  10. My hockey playing experience is limited to having once held a real hockey stick in my hand.

Oh, and there was that one time I got to go on the ice during an intermission at a Sharks game and had to get a puck the size of a tire into a net using a "stick" bigger than my whole body.

But I was so nervous and in shock that they randomly picked me out of the audience that I barely remember anything anyway.

    I'll cheer y'all on though!

  11. if there is any such thing as a hockey choreography, i'm SO IN. otherwise, my talents are pretty much limited. :P

  12. Kyle says I get to be "entraineur chef." w00t! It was a tough job to get, though. I heard Bob Gainey was trying to appoint himself. I had to put the smack down!

  13. I'm in! Goalie, and I'll bring along my own gear ('cause I'm tiny).

I'll also try to bring my brother but no idea if he'll play. Still, it'll be good to get him out of the house.

    Gonna be a blast. Woo~!

  14. @Don – We'd love to have you play hockey with us. Just one caveat – we have limited place and the priority goes to Twitter users. If you're already on twitter, let us know your handle there. Otherwise we will be in touch if there is still place. You'll hear from us by next Thursday at the latest!

    Thanks for your interest!

  15. look out. Here comes kuyaz! count me IN! I'm leaving the Tdot at 4am to get there in time for the game. GIRL CRUSH vs DANI'S BOYZ!

  16. OK I got my brother to come along. As he says "I can't shoot for beans. I'm a stay-at-home defenseman". So if there's room he wouldn't mind to join in.

  17. I'll "coach", which means at any moment i might stop filming blackmail material, grab a stick and shoot the puck at some blogger.

But otherwise, I'm on the sidelines, working the Mike Keenan vulcan mind mechanics.

  18. REALLY sucks I can't be there… circumstances have dictated me pulling out … I would love someone to facebook or tweet at me – (id matthewrossmtl for each) to let me know how the weekend went so I can mention it on my show on Sunday.
