Game Report

The Canadiens completed their road trip with a Sunday matinee against the Golden Knights. The ‘Vegas flu’ looked to be in play in the first period as the Habs did not show up for their 3:00 pm. local puck drop. The Knights dominated the first period outshooting the visitors 13-to-5, and opened the scoring on goals by Shea Theodore and Ivan Barbashev.

Montreal offered some push-back with a better, more engaged second period. That said, the Habs fell further behind as own zone chaos allowed Reilly Smith to score the third Vegas goal. Denis Gurianov’s defensive liabilities were rather evident in this game and Frederic Allard appeared in over his head appearing in his second NHL contest.

The Canadiens’ ‘never-die’ spirit emerged in the third frame. A newly-formed line of Jesse Ylonen and Rafael Harvey-Pinard with Nick Suzuki put on an inspired show. Ylonen’s aggressive forecheck and skilled passing was the catalyst for the Habs’ final goal.

Montreal went 1-3-0 during their four-game visit to California and Nevada.

Up Next

The Canadiens completed their West Coast road trip and returned to Montreal. The Habs will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

Post-game Quotes

Marty St. Louis

  • “We got off to a bad start. We had no energy in the first period. I liked how we finished second and took that to third.”
