Canadiens.com:
And then there were two. The first-ever Canadiens Play of the Year tournament is almost over, with Andrei Kostitsyn and Mark Streit being the only two Habs still standing. Now, it’s up to you to decide who will be crowned champion!
It’s been a long road for Kostitsyn and Streit, who have outlasted the 30 other incredible plays of the week that were vying for this year’s honors.
While it’s no surprise that Kostitsyn’s top-seeded goal has made it way to the grand finale, the same can’t be said for Streit. Ranked No. 5 heading into the tourney, Streit’s breakaway goal against the Bruins in the Habs’ opening round series win over Boston caused a few upsets along the way. The Swiss defenseman even toppled heavily-favored Alex Kovalev, whose tying goal in Montreal’s historic 6-5 comeback win over the Rangers was upended in the quarterfinals by Streit.
Nonetheless, there’s no denying that Kostitsyn has turned this event into his personal playground. With three of his goals reaching the Final Four and his undressing of the Thrashers’ Kari Lehtonen posing a huge test for Streit, Kostitsyn will be looking to end his teammate’s Cinderella run.
The polls are now open and will close on Sunday, June 9. The fates of Kostitsyn and Streit are in your hands.
