Game Report

The Canadiens first win of the exhibition schedule will have to wait. On a night when their limited offence took advantage of suspect goaltender to score four, the Habs could not fend off the potent Senators power-play. As a result, Montreal has started the pre-season with four consecutive losses.

Ottawa dominated offensive zone time throughout in this game but the Canadiens held a 4-2 lead midway through the third period thanks to some opportunistic scoring. Jake Evans had his first two goals of pre-season to open the scoring.

But Montreal was playing with fire spending most of the game chasing the puck. The result could have been worse but the Senators top line of Josh Norris, Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson was sitting this one out.

The Canadiens will meet them in the week ahead however. The Sens and Habs will meet three more times in the next seven days.

For this game, Habs fans will have to be content with outstanding individual plays: Jesse Ylonen’s brilliant pass to set up Montreal’s third goal, Justin Barron’s quick release for his first of the pre-season and Mike Matheson’s aerial lob to Evans for his second goal.

Up Next

The Canadiens have a day off on Sunday. They will open the week with a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night at the Bell Centre.

Post-game Quotes

Jake Allen

  • “I’ll never fill Carey’s shoes. I never will. I’m blunt in saying that. I don’t have the talent and the game that Carey Price has, but I have my own game. My own game has brought me success in this league and consistency.”

Marty St. Louis

  • “A high percentage of our shots are chances to score but it would be fun not always looking for the perfect play. It would be nice to have a higher volume of shots.”

  1. salut-bien chers amis allhabs,
pre-season means “show what you got”for the new kids and gradual game-shape for the veterans.(maybe in days gone by eh).wins or losses not so primordial.but when it starts for real, need to be ready to play your part for the team to win,,,
very happy for jake allen.i see him as a quality keeper.who battles hard and gives his team a chance to win.and yes,he is a winner.a stanley cup winner.and played an integral part in that cup run.not pedestrian but integral!!!is he carey’s back-up,yes.
but so too 62 other goalies around the league would be,non?
jake will do his part.his teamates need to do their’s.
slafkovksy?give the kid a break.barely turned 18.when he is ready,he will show it.the kid can play!!!
by christmas we will know our “state of the union” status.
most likely not a play-off contender?but one never knows?
a hot goalie, some good fortune, steady developement and leadership from our vets;we could just sneak in,,,
    merci pour l’ecoute
    portez-vous tous bien
    familleCH,toujours
