Game Report

The Montreal Canadiens were beaten 6-0 at home. “Embarrassing,” say some on social media.

But it is not an isolated incident. This is the eighth time this season that the Canadiens have given up five goals or more in a game.

They just set another record in futility. The 2021-22 edition of the Canadiens have the worst goal differential, minus-14, through the first 10 home games in franchise history.

Watching on television, have you noticed all of the empty seats in the lower bowl? Fans are turning away, and those at home are turning off.

Do you care, Geoff Molson?

The 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens are shaping up to be one of the worst teams in the long, proud history of the organization. And Mr. Molson is the owner attached to this team. He owns the growing list of dubious records.

Yet Molson continues to duck the media and his responsibilities as the team spirals downward. It is painfully obvious that Dominique Ducharme is in over his head and doesn’t have the attention of his team. And Marc Bergevin has one foot out the door.

Fire them. Fire them both. And continue the season with Luke Richardson running the bench and Scott Mellanby managing hockey operations. Each of them can finish out the season in an interim role.

Then conduct a search in the off-season for the new group to manage the next chapter of the Montreal Canadiens. And make it a proper search to find the best, most experienced hockey minds. End the silly practice of fishing in the shallow end of the pond that has handcuffed this franchise for decades.

Return to the days when merit and the pursuit of excellence meant something to the Montreal Canadiens. And make your fans proud once again.

What Did They Say?

Post-game Quotes

Dominique Ducharme

  • “No one shows up at the office and hopes they have a bad day. No one shows up at the arena and hopes to have a bad game. Tonight, we were just bad. I can try to dissect all facets of the game, we were bad.”

Ben Chiarot

  • “When you allow that many goals, there are probably several things that don’t work.”

Mattias Norlinder

  • “I think I can make more plays, take more responsibility with the puck and carry it to the front more often. But it was only my first game, I didn’t want to force things too much.”
