White’s 4 point night help ‘Dogs to 7-4 win over Rivermen

The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Peoria Rivermen 7-4 despite being out shot 47 to 23. Ryan White recorded two goals and two assists while the ‘Dogs earned two shorthanded goals which increases their total to nine on the year.

Greg Stewart opened scoring for the Bulldogs at 12:54 of the first frame. Matt D’Agostini, Yanick Lehoux and Stewart skated into the Rivermen’s zone on a 3-on-2 where D’Agostini sent a pass to Lehoux, who fed a pass over to Stewart. Stewart shot the puck into a wide open net as Peoria starting goaltender Ben Bishop was unable to get across the crease in time.

Peoria tied the game while on a power play at 8:34 of the second stanza. Nikolay Lemtyugov knocked a puck out of mid-air before firing a shot past Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis. Nicholas Drazenovic and Ivan Vishnevskiy also earned assists on the goal. The Rivermen took a 2-1 lead at 15:24. Drazenovic snuck behind the Bulldogs’ defenders and positioned himself at the side of the net where he received a pass from Jim Jackson. Drazenovic ripped a one-time shot that sailed past Denis.

Hamilton tied the game 2-2 at 18:37 of the middle stanza. White darted to the net where he used a backhand to forehand move before slipping the puck through the legs of Bishop. Brock Trotter earned an assist on the play.

D’Agostini gave the ‘Dogs a 3-2 lead at 4:01 of the final frame. D’Agostini raced into the slot where he rifled a shot that went through Bishop’s pads and into the back of the net. The goal was D’Agostini’s team-leading 13th goal of the season. Trotter increased the Bulldogs lead to 4-2 on at 4:55 of the third stanza. Trotter, White and Yannick Weber skated in on a 3-on-1 where Weber blasted a shot on net. Trotter grabbed the loose rebound and banged it past Bishop for his second goal in as many games.

Vishnevskiy cut the lead to one goal at 8:35 of the third stanza. Vishnevskiy blasted a shot from the point that made its way through traffic and into the back of the net. The goal was Vishnevskiy’s third point of the night after assisting on the previous two Peoria goals.

Kyle Chipchura recorded Hamilton’s fifth goal of the game at 9:51 of the third period. Chipchura rifled a shot that beat Bishop high on the glove side. White recorded his second goal of the game at 11:29. While shorthanded, White stripped the puck off Andy Wozniewski in the Peoria zone. White faked a forehand shot before backhanding the puck through Bishop’s five-hole to give the ‘Dogs a 6-3 lead.

Ivan Vishnevskiy earned a shorthanded marker at 4:42 of the third frame. Denis lost the puck after trying to skate up the ice with the puck. Denis raced back to the net but was unable to make it back in time as Vishnevskiy shot the puck into the empty net.

Chipchura sealed the win for Hamilton with an empty net shorthanded goal to give Hamilton a 7-4 win. The goal now ties Chipchura with Dan LaCouture, Ralph Intranuovo and Jason Chimera for all-time Bulldogs shorthanded goals with six.
