The Skinny
Energetic two-way forward who makes good use of his size at both ends of the ice. Has a strong physical edge to his game with good puck-skills and agile skating, and at age 24, he is poised to make an impact as a scorer as well.
What you’ve probably heard by now
Howie Morenz.
Bernard “Boom-Boom” Geoffrion.
…That’s it.
What you may not know
Like the last player we featured in “Who’s This Guy?”, Rene Bourque, Geoffrion went to the University of Wisconsin. He majored in Consumer Affairs.
Wearing #5, of course, is not a coincidence.
He was born in Florida, but grew up in Tennessee, and became the first native of Tennessee to sign an NHL contract on June 15th, 2010.
His father, Daniel, the oft-forgotten third generation, also played for the Habs in his NHL/WHA career. He also played for the Winnipeg Jets, as well as the Quebec Nordiques.
Nick, Sebastian and Brice are Blake’s three brothers.
Geoffrion was the winner of the 2010 Hobey Baker Award after captaining the Badgers and leading them to the National Championship Game, registering 50 points in 40 games along the way.
