Number: 27 Height: 6’2” (!) Weight: 213 lbs. Shoots: Left Born: December 10th, 1981
Birthplace: Lac La Biche, Alberta, Canada Drafted: Undrafted. Free agent acquisition by Chicago (2004). Acquired: January 12th, 2012 in exchange for Michael Cammalleri, Karri Rämö and a fifth round draft pick.
The Specs
Bourque has played the balance of his career with the Calgary Flames, who acquired him from the Chicago Blackhawks in 2008. He has gone on to produce seasons of up to 58 points (the last two seasons saw him score 27 goals each).
The Skinny
A bit of a streaky player, but one with the size and abilities that have seen him become an effective two-way talent over the years. If Bourque doesn’t keep himself on the shelf with too many injuries (or suspensions) the benefits of the trade for Cammalleri could very well prove to manifest themselves in the short-term rather than the long-term.
What you’ve probably heard by now
He’s served two suspensions for similar hits within the same calendar month. (But not calendar year. Ha!)
Good thing he’s on our side now, because he’s had 6 goals and 3 assists in 9 career games against the Canadiens, as seen notably in disasters such as the Heritage “Classic” last year.
What you may not know
He’s a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. (If you’ve seen That 70s Show, well, you know what to say here.) Recently named the #3 “party school” in the US, Bourque claims it was #1 when he was a Badger.
He is from a family of four children, two sets of fraternal twins.
He’s scored as many points over the span of his career in the first period of games as in the third period of games, which is a double-shot of good news for the Canadiens if he keeps that up.
He has represented Canada once in his career, at the 2010 World Hockey Championships.
His favourite bands include Kings of Leon and Muse. He could live happily without ever again hearing Chelsea Dagger, however (welcome to the Eastern Conference, where Chicago typically plays once a year)!
