Excerpt from the Hamilton Spectator article by Garry McKay:

Since the start of the regular season Wyman had only suited up three times on the wing. When defenceman Chad Anderson went down last week with a contusion on his foot, after blocking a shot in practice, head coach Don Lever and assistant Ron Wilson turned to Wyman again.

He played defence both games on the weekend against Rochester.

And how did he do?

“He was plus four in his two games, we won both games and he never hurt us,” said Lever, who primarily had Wyman paired with veteran defenceman Alex Henry. “We put him with Henry and let Henry stay at home.

“We can use his mobility back there. We’ve got nice size back there and now with him, Mathieu Carle and Yannick Weber, we’ve got three pretty good skaters. And now with the seven defencemen, it adds a little competition, too.”

Wyman said his permanent move back to the blue-line was basically a group decision, involving he and his agent as well as the team’s coaching staff, general manager Julien BriseBois and Trevor Timmins, the Montreal Canadiens’ director of player recruitment and development.

I know Trevor Timmins wasn’t happy with Dartmouth head coach, Bob Gaudet when he used Wyman on defense at various times during his junior year (2006-07). At the time, Timmins probably felt Wyman’s development as a forward would be slowed, but sometimes you have to roll with the punches.

In this case, it give Wyman some much needed ice time and also gives him another tool in the tool box as well as give the Canadiens organization another versatile player to add to the NHL roster one day.
