CANADIENS SIGN DEFENSEMAN CODY GOLOUBEF TO PTO CONTRACT

Montreal Canadiens Media Release

MONTREAL, QC — The Canadiens recently announced the signing of Cody Goloubef to a professional tryout (PTO) contract. The 6’1″, 194 pound defenseman will attend training camp in Brossard, which begins on Wednesday.

Player Background

Drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2008 (second round, 37th overall), the 31-year-old Mississauga native has registered 342 AHL games throughout his career. He most recently suited up for the Belleville Senators in 2020-21 (31 GP, 4G/2A). He was an AHL All-Star in 2014.

Goloubef boasts 160 career NHL games played with the Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings (3G/22A). During his time with Columbus, Goloubef played with new Canadiens defenseman David Savard.

Early in his career, the right-handed blueliner spent three years in the NCAA skating for the University of Wisconsin. He also helped lead Team Canada to a Spengler Cup win in 2017, along with a bronze medal at the 2018 Olympic Games.

Family Connection

Goloubef’s great uncle is none other than Montreal legend Dick Duff. Duff played a significant role in the team’s 1965, 1966, 1968, and 1969 Stanley Cup victories.
