CIBC Signs Multi-Year Sponsorship Agreement with the Montreal Canadiens

CIBC Media Release

MONTREAL, QC – The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) announced a new sponsorship agreement with the Montreal Canadiens this week, in what the financial institution’s executives call an opportunity to build the relationship with Habs fans and support Quebec communities.

“The Canadiens’ storied franchise holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Quebec and hockey fans everywhere – and we are proud to partner with the team to make their fans’ ambition to bring a championship back to Montreal a reality,” said Stephen Forbes, Executive Vice-President, Purpose, Brand, and Corporate Affairs for CIBC. “In addition, the genuine enthusiasm our Quebec team members have for the Habs will undoubtedly be on display throughout the season – adding significant bench strength to an already passionate fan base.”

CIBC’s logo will be showcased “prominently” at the Bell Centre and on the Canadiens’ white away helmets. Fans will get a first glimpse of the new helmet look on Saturday night when the Habs face off against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

“It’s only natural for us to pursue a partnership with such an established institution, which not only shares our passion for the game of hockey but also the desire to help local communities,” said France Margaret Bélanger, President of Sports and Entertainment of Group CH.

Additional Plans

CIBC and the Canadiens also plan to collaborate and organize new fan activities and experiences both inside and outside the Bell Centre. In addition, both organizations have long-standing community-based commitments, the mainstay of which are their charitable organizations. The CIBC Children’s Foundation and the Montreal Canadiens Foundation will host collaborative initiatives throughout the length the sponsorship deal.

“This is exciting for the future of the relationship between the Montreal Canadiens and CIBC,” stated Bélanger, “who have demonstrated their readiness to take action to achieve the ambitious goals we have set for ourselves.”
