Habs Acquire Davis Drewiske from Kings for Pick

MONTREAL, QC. — Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenseman Davis Drewiske from the LA Kings in return for a 5th round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Drewiske, 28, is a stay-at-home defenseman who has intermittently played 126 NHL games over the past five years. Drewiske is earning $650,000 on his current contract which expires at the end of the season making him an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have acquired a fifth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Davis Drewiske, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Drewiske, 28, has played in 20 games with the Kings this season, recording four points (1-3=4), 14 penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating. The 6-2, 220-pound native of Hudson, Wis. has played in 126 career NHL games (all with the Kings), recording 22 points (4-18=22) and 67 penalty minutes. Drewiske was originally signed by the Kings as a free agent on April 1, 2008.

MONTRÉAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Tuesday the acquisition of defenseman Davis Drewiske from the Los Angeles Kings, in return for a fifth round draft pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

“Davis Drewiske is a defenseman with good size and experience who has already played more than 120 games in the NHL. He adds significant depth to our group of defensemen,” said Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.

Drewiske, 28, appeared in 20 games for the Kings this season, collecting four points (1 goal, 3 assists). The 6’2’’ and 220 lbs rearguard has served 14 penalty minutes and displays a +3 plus/minus differential, while playing an average of 14:27 per game. Drewiske has collected 22 points (4 goals, 18 assists) and 67 penalty minutes in 126 regular season games in career.

A native of Hudson, Wisconsin, Drewiske was signed as a free agent by the Kings on April 1, 2008.
