Habster’s take:
Habsworld’s B. La Rose makes some good points about the off season additions to the Canadiens. I do believe Roman Hamrlik is a better two way defenseman than Sheldon Souray and think he will be a great mentor/teacher to the young defensemen on the Habs. The word out of Calgary was that Hamrlik had a small but significant role in Dion Phaneuf ‘s development as a hockey player on and off the ice.
I don’t think Mr. La Rose gives Tom Kostopoulos enough credit for his leadership qualities in the room as well as how much this guy will be respected/appreciated by his teammates. Kostopoulos also has a better skill set than Aaron Downey and can chip in with some goals occasionally. I think Janne Lahti will make the Canadiens opening roster due to his versatility and skating ability. It will be interesting to see him in training camp and preseason games.
