As NHL fans are left wondering if there will be a season or not, the Christmas holidays are upon us and while this lockout situation is critical, everything has been said about this painful turn of events. But why let a few millionaires and billionaires ruin this festive season for all of us? Let’s take a step back and enjoy the holiday season with our loved ones, listening to our favourite Christmas carols… unless you’re a true hardcore NHL fan. Then you may want to change the lyrics just a little bit.

Bettman blows
(Let is snow)

Oh the season’s outlook is frightful
But football is so delightful
And since we have no place to go
Bettman blows! Bettman blows! Bettman blows!

They’re not showing signs of playing
And more games they’ve been cancelling
The hopes are turned way down low
Bettman blows! Bettman blows! Bettman blows!

When we finally kiss goodbye
How I’ll hate all the people involved!
But both sides feel they need to be right
Even if they cause more harm

The fans’ fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, they’re still not talking
But as long as I’ll live I’ll know
Bettman blows! Bettman blows! Bettman blows!

Hockey season
(White Christmas)

I’m dreaming of a hockey season
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the owners are payin’
and players playin’
To hear crowds roar as they go

I’m dreaming of a hockey season
With every dispute that you fight
May your greed be on all websites
And may all your weakness be put to light.

I’m dreaming of a hockey season
With every hockey Tweet I write
May your pay be empty and light
And may all your budgets be tight

Deck them all
(Deck the Hall)

Shopped the malls thinking of Gary
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Fight the crowds and hate Bill Daly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
We won’t buy NHL apparel
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.
Taking their HRR in control
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

Seems like no one cares about us
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
From Fehr to Crosby and George Parros
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Follow me in merry measure
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.
We’ll show them who gives them treasures
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Far away the old season’s pass
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Hail the new year, no Center Ice
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Sing we joyous, all together
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la.
Heedless of the owners and players
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Gary Bettman is ruining your town
(Santa Claus is coming to town)

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Gary Bettman is ruining your town

He makes an offer
And checking it twice
Doesn’t care if you’re naughty or nice
Gary Bettman is ruining your town

He sees that you are weeping
He’ll throw it all away
He knows that you’ll be back for good
As soon as the puck drops some day!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Gary Bettman is ruining your town
Gary Bettman is ruining your town

I Saw Gary kissing Donald Fehr
(I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus)

I saw Gary kissing Donald Fehr
Underneath the mistletoe last night.
They both gave me the creeps
As they were acting like freaks
As if they didn’t mess
Up enough with the sport that we like.

Then, I saw Gary tickle Donald Fehr
Underneath his crazy hair so white.
Oh, what a laugh it would have been,
If Bill Daly had only seen
Gary kissing Donald Fehr last night!

It’s beginning to look a lot like ’05
(It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas)

It’s beginning to look a lot like ’05
Not again I know
Take a look in the Five and Ten
Arguing once again
With the gold rings and silver chains aglow

It’s beginning to look a lot like ’05
Games canceled some more
But the hugliest sight to see
Is the Gary that will be
Guilty of it once more

A pair of seasons to boot and some players to loot
Is the wish of Gary and Bill
Players that will talk hoping they will balk
Is the hope of Jacobs and Snider.
And Geoff and Craig can hardly wait
For hockey to start again

It’s beginning to look a lot like ’05
Not again I know
There’s hockey related revenues
Free agency issues
And what they’ll die on the hill that we know

It’s beginning to look a lot like ’05
Soon the bell will start
And the thing that will make it ring
Is the dreaded dealine thing
Hurt within your heart

A pair of seasons to boot and some players to loot
Is the wish of Gary and Bill
Players that will talk hoping they will balk
Is the hope of Jacobs and Snider
And Geoff and Craig can hardly wait
For hockey to start again

It’s beginning to look a lot like ’05
Soon the bell will start
And the thing that will make it ring
Is the dreaded dealine thing
Hurt within your heart, hurt within your heart

J.D. is a Senior writer for All Habs as well as Associate-Editor for the French version Le Magazine All Habs, while one of three Administrators of the fan forum Les Fantômes du Forum. He has created the handle Habsterix as a fictional character for the sole purpose of the internet. It is based on the cartoon Asterix of Gaule and his magic potion is his passion for the Montreal Canadiens. How old is he? His close friends will tell you that he’s so old, his back goes out more than he does! He was born when Béliveau lifted the Cup and remembers the days when seeing the Habs winning was not a wish, it was an expectation. For him, writing is a hobby, not a profession. Having moved to beautiful British Columbia in 1992 from his home town of Sherbrooke, Quebec, he started writing mostly in French to keep up his grammar, until non-bilingual BC friends pushed him into starting his own English Blog. His wife will say that he can be stubborn, but she will be the first to recognise that he has great sense of humour. He is always happy to share with you readers his point of views on different topics, and while it is expected that people won’t always agree, respect of opinions and of others is his mission statement. || J.D. est Rédacteur-Adjoint sur Le Magazine All Habs et il est un Rédacteur Principal sur le site anglophone All Habs, tout en étant un des trois Administrateurs du forum de discussion Les Fantômes du Forum.
