MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the signing of forward Michael Blunden to a one-year, two-way contract (2012-13). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Blunden, 25, completed his seventh season in professional hockey in 2011-12, his first as a member of the Canadiens. In 39 games, the right winger tallied four points (2 goals, 2 assists). He recorded 34 shots on goal, 104 hits and served 27 penalty minutes, while averaging 9:21 seconds of ice time per game. Blunden missed 20 games due to a knee injury suffered on February 2 at New Jersey.

Blunden amassed eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) in 17 games with the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs during the 2011-12 regular season. He collected 49 shots on goal and served 26 penalty minutes.

Since his debut in 2006-07, Blunden has registered eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) in 90 NHL regular-season contests. The 6’4’’, 211 lbs forward has accumulated 96 penalty minutes.

The Toronto-born Blundenwas acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in return for forward Ryan Russell on July 7, 2011.
