Canadiens Need To Sign a Couple Of Prospects As June 1st Deadline Approaches

Bob Gainey will definitely sign the versatile and gritty center Ryan White but will probably not sign defenseman Cameron Cepek who has struggled at times with injuries and consistency throughout his WHL junior career.

Cameron Cepek has played for some bad teams (Portland Winterhawks and the first year Edmonton Oil Kings) over the past two years. He is an assistant captain with the Oil Kings and is having a decent offensive year with 24 points (G-7 A-17) but is still struggling in his own end of the ice (-13). He was a horrible -41 last season when he was playing for a bad Winterhawk team.

The Canadiens have plenty of talented young defensemen in their system, some that are very close to making the jump to the AHL or even the NHL. Gainey will be realistic and fair in his assessment of signing Cepak but the reality of the situation would indicate signing Cepak is improbable.
