MONTREAL, QC — The student protesters tried to put a damper on the biggest event of the summer, but they were outsmarted by tourists who came in by the bulk to attend the Grand Prix. Many of those tourists were NHL players, who visited Montreal for several reasons which included the Cirque du Soleil show Amaluna, the Grand Prix week-end festivities all around the city and of course the race.

Some Canadian hockey players came back to the homeland including Tampa Bay Lightning defense man Mike Commodore (@commie22), Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux (@28CGiroux), Flyers centre Max Talbot (@Max25talbot), Flyers prospect Jason Akeson (@JasonAkeson) from the Adirondack Phantoms, Phoenix Coyotes winger Paul Bissonnette (@BizNasty2point0), centre Derrick Brassard from the Columbus Blue Jackets (@dbrassard16), Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Bruno Gervais (@bruno_gervais27) and Tampa winger Teddy Purcell (@teddypurcell16). The group of men were very active on Twitter over the week-end, letting their fans know where they were, who they were with and exchanging jokes amongst each other.

Montreal also saw the likes of Detroit Red Wings winger Jiri Hudler, who may be a free agent come July 1st. He spent his week-end at Italian restaurant Bice with friends. Hockey players were not the only celebrities who walked the town last week-end. Pussycat doll Nicole Scherzinger came to support her boyfriend, and Grand Prix champion Lewis Hamilton. Movie star Mark Wahlberg and international DJ David Guetta were also spotted by the tracks.
