On television and on-line, Canadians watched hockey in record numbers this playoff season on CBC.

On air, ratings data from the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement (BBM) show CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA’s coverage of the 2011 NHL playoffs has shattered all previous records for post-season audiences. From the four playoff series, to the Stanley Cup Final, to the Vancouver/Boston Game 7 showdown, this year’s playoff run truly was one for the record books.

CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA – Stanley Cup Final – Vancouver/Boston*

Average audience of 6.15 million viewers, up 98% compared to the 2009/10 Stanley Cup Final.
Marks the highest Stanley Cup Final average since TV metered measurement (originally set by 2004 average of 3.73 million, a difference of 65%).
Among 25-54 audiences, Stanley Cup Final games on CBC captured an audience of 2.78 million viewers, up 101% compared to 2009/10.
The Stanley Cup Final on CBC reached just under 23 million Canadians, which translates to about 68% of the total population (two-in-three Canadians).
The highest game of the Stanley Cup Final on CBC was Game 7 (June 15, 2011) with an audience of 8.7 million and a 25-54 audience of 4.0 million, making it the highest Stanley Cup Final game since TV metered measurement began.
This game alone reached 18.45 million Canadians 2+.

CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA – 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs*

Rounds One-Four on CBC captured an average audience of 2.91 million, up 39% from 2009/10, making it the highest Stanley Cup Playoffs since TV metered measurement began.
Among 25-54 audiences, Rounds 1-4 captured an audience of 1.33 million, up 41% over the 2009/10.
Rounds One-Four on CBC have reached a total of 27.2 million Canadians, or 81% of the entire Canadian population.

On-line, hockey fans were also flocking to www.cbcsports.ca/hockey for Stanley Cup Playoff reports, information and online streaming. The website recorded 4.98 million unique visitors and 32.4 million page views during the playoffs, up 193% and 237% respectfully during the same time period last year. Average daily page views to the hockey section were up by 43% for the playoffs over 2010. There were a total of 4.14 million live streaming video views during the playoffs. Game Seven of the Vancouver/Boston series was the most streamed game of the season with 279,134 video views.
