I suspect we’re possibly going to see another Sheldon Souray situation as we get closer to the trade deadline. I think most Canadiens fan would be comfortable enough with Carey Price as their #1 goaltender down the stretch drive heading towards a possible playoff berth. It’s one thing for us to have this faith in Price but does Canadiens coaches and management have enough faith in Price to carry the workload as #1?
Carey Price has had some bumps along the way needless to say but he has also shown a remarkable amount of calmness, solid technical skill and the ability to win games throughout his young hockey career. Since Gainey was the person who decided to keep Price with the Canadiens when training camp finished, then I’ve got the sneaking suspicion that he would be very comfortable with Mr. Price as #1 (as long as he continues to progress and play well until the trade deadline).
If Gainey can improve his team by trading Huet, this is a no-brainer move that has to be made. Lest we forget the Souray situation which left the Canadiens with nothing in return……..including missing the playoff!!!!!
